Steel cored aluminum cable, also known as Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR), is a cable used on overhead power lines. It uses a strong tensile steel wire as the core of the conductor and is surrounded by aluminum wire for power supply
Solar energy technology will become one of the future green energy technologies, and solar or photovoltaic (PV) applications are becoming increasingly widespread in China. In addition to the rapid development of government supported photovoltaic power plants, private investors are also actively building factories and planning to produce solar modules for global sales
One way to mitigate the skin effect is to use the so-called Leeds line. The Leeds line adopts the method of winding multiple metal wires around each other, so that the electromagnetic field can be evenly distributed, and the current distribution on each wire will be more even. After using the Leeds line, the frequency that produces significant skin effect can be increased from several kilohertz to several megahertz. Leeds line is generally used in the transmission of high-frequency alternating current, which can simultaneously alleviate skin effect and proximity effect.
High voltage and high current overhead power lines usually use steel cored aluminum stranded wire, which can lower the temperature of the working part of the aluminum part, reduce the resistivity, and due to the skin effect, the steel core with higher resistivity carries very little current, so it is irrelevant.
There is also a method of replacing solid wires with hollow conduit and adding insulation material in the middle, which can reduce the weight of the wires.
When the transmission frequency is at the very high frequency or microwave level, silver plated wires (known as the best conductors except superconductors) are generally used because the skin depth is so shallow that thicker silver layers are already wasted
