  • Steel cored aluminum cable, also known as Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR), is a cable used on overhead power lines. It uses a strong tensile steel wire as the core of the conductor and is surrounded by aluminum wire for power supply.

    The outer layer uses aluminum wire because aluminum has good conductivity, light weight, and is inexpensive. The inner layer uses steel wire due to its strong tensile strength. Fortunately, although the conductivity of steel wire is poor, due to the skin effect, most of the current passes through the outer layer of the cable. Therefore, it doesn't matter if the conductivity of the inner layer is poor, the higher the impedance of the inner layer, the better.

    It has a steel "core" inside and is wrapped around the steel core with aluminum wire twisted together on the outside; Steel core mainly serves to increase strength, while aluminum stranded wire mainly serves to transmit electrical energy;
